I've used the Treo 650 before and I'd still highly recommend it to anyone wanting a fairly straight forward smart phone that uses the Palm operating system. In fact I'd say that it is still my favorite phone for the Palm OS. It has the nice round QWERTY keyboard--like a blackberry. It has the nicely placed adequately sized stylus. Perhaps, more importantly, it has a long battery life compared to many other smart phones. The Treo 650 is a fully unlockable phone--meaning you can travel to Europe or Africa, put in another SIM card and be dialing or using the Internet right away without worrying about a bunch of proprietary issues-as you would have with most Blackberries and many Iphones. The Palm Treo 650 is no spring chicken however. If you want to do wifi or GPS operations, you may want to consider a different model. If you are just wanting a nice smart phone that can store your MS office documents, store your contacts. has dialup internet capability and can work on foreign soil, you will be happy with the Palm Treo 650. My wife is using the Treo 650 and is very satisfied. I bought the newer Palm Treo Pro (850) because it has a built in GPS and WiFi capability. However, I find that my Treo Pro can't seem to hold much battery charge for more than a day and a half--which is a bummer--considering it is supposed to be a portable phone. (The poor thing remains on its "umbilical" cord most of the time, because if I remove it, the battery drains rapidly.) Thus, I really highly recommend the 650 for its battery capacity alone. Pros: Palm OS is easy to use. Stylus is well placed. Keypad is more ergonomically friendly than newer Palm phones. Long battery life--you can go three or more days without charging. Cons: No built in WiFi capability. No built-in GPS capability. Overall, I highly reccomend this phone. If you are wanting a Blackberry-like phone, but you want to pay less and have something more compatible with world travel, you should consider the Palm Treo line. This phone looks identical to many of the Blackberry phones and does the job.Read full review
I decided to purchase this phone for my sister after she had lost her original one, and I, being a bargain shopper, didnt want to pay the $50 to have Sprint replace the phone (insurance costs). When the phone arrived, I was suprised to hold it. I've gotten fairly used to my Blackberry Curve, and the bulkiness of the Treo was compelling. However, when I started playing around with it, I soon realized how powerful the phone really was. I have owned Palm Pilots in the past and have loved them to death---this phone took the best of the Palm world and mixed it with a phone, and the result is absolutely worth it. It is certainly different from any other PPC models that I have recently used and it took a moment to get used to. But once there were a few games on it and I had messed with the customization to have my own wallpapers and different colors, I found myself playing with it for a good amount of time. I was, however, unimpressed by the browser. I realize it is an older phone, and it has an older browser on it (which runs slow). Perhaps I am used to the quick loading of the Blackberry. This was probably great speed when it came out. Another thing to point out is that no GPS at all (not only for navigation but for tracking a phone when it is lost) can be annoying at times. But for the price I paid for the phone ($30) I figured that if I need to replace it, I would be ok with that. All in all, the usability, the organization of a palm (contacts, emails, and calendar were very nice to use), and the easy access of a touch screen as well as a qwerty pad were wonderful. The only downfalls I see are the bulkiness, the camera (forgot to mention that it is a small camera), and the internet/gps capabilities.Read full review
I bought one Palm Treo 650 four years ago, last year I bought Blackberry (broken so fast poor quality)and this year a Samsung with poor wifi and poor touchscreen. I decided to return with a good cell phone with PDA function. I dont want to watch video and I dont want to go on the internet with a poor cell phone. OK you can buy an Iphone but it's to expensive, for wifi I use my Ipod touch 2gen it's perfect. If you just want to call, messaging and good PDA functions with easy keyboard Palm Treo 650 is perfect. With this cell phone, very easy to use and write with one hand. Also I appreciate GPS facility to match with TomTom navigation system, you buy a GPS and TomTom expension card and go. Also you can use the screen like a touchscreen with using your nail. I hope this one will be so tought as my first one, that I drop so many times on the floor, the road and two times in the water and it was always working good. A real tough one, but after three years I have broken my antenna. Some say it's to big but I think it's more easy to handle.Read full review
I would rate it excellent if it were a bit faster and more memory. That said, I have had my original Treo 650 for almost 4 years, and for day planning, I can access the day to schedule an appt way faster than iPhone users. As for video, with the software I have, I can plug in a SD card, and immediately watch movies that are turned into mp4 by Handbrake. I don't have to upload to the device. I got a second identical phone as a back up just in case the unthinkable happens. So far I have not seen anything that compares in all functions to this legacy. I don't have to have wifi so that maybe for some what is the difference.

The world phone also has a 312MHz processor, Palm OS 5.4, multimedia, and e-mail support. The bad: Sadly, the Palm Treo 650 has meager integrated memory, no built-in Wi-Fi, and a low-resolution camera. Also, the Treo 650's headphone jack isn't standard size, and you can't use its Bluetooth as a wireless modem. The bottom line: Though it has its shortcomings, the Palm Treo 650 offers solid performance and adds some key features to maintain its reign as smart-phone leader. Fortunately, that's precisely what PalmOne did with its new Treo 650. This model offers a high-resolution display, a faster processor, Bluetooth wireless, Palm OS 5.4, and a removable battery--all notable additions. But the honeymoon ends with some shortcomings, specifically the stingy memory, the limited Bluetooth implementation, and the lack of Wi-Fi. How you feel about these issues depends on your needs, but for our money, the Treo remains the best all-in-one communicator available. Sprint PCS was the first to introduce the new Treo in October of last year, but now after three months of waiting fervently, Cingular customers have a version of their own. At $549, the price is hefty, but you should be able to find it for less with service. The PalmOne Treo 650 looks virtually identical to its predecessor. It is the same shape and size (4.4 by 2.3 by 0.9 inches, not including the stubby antenna) and only a hair heavier atRead full review
