First of all, the item that i bought was SMC Barricade(TM) WBR14-G 2.4GHz 54Mbps Wireless Broadband Router. The seller descibed that it's matching NetGear WGR614, but as you can see those are a different items. The item arrived in excellent condition and in time. The problems started when i unpacked and assembled it. First of all, the router itself is SMC made, it's antenna was D-Link made and a desciption was for a NetGear. Strange a bit, doesn't it? Nevetheless, it seemed to work. After i had connected it, i found out that the seller didn't provide a login password for it. But with a little help from Google, i had found out that the default password is smcadmin, and it worked. So finally, i'm in. The features and definition options of the router are quite sophisticated and advanced, but easy to configure and understand. With every option there is a couple of explanation rows that say what it suppose to do. The menu is very friendly and simple. When i tried to configure L2TP connection, i found out that it didn't exist in the current firmware version, so i downloaded a newer one (or so i thought) from www.smc.com (manufacturer site). I had updated it with no problems at all, and L2TP option appeared. But when i tried to configure it, i was recieving an "setup error 2!" error all the time, no matter what i had added or changed. I contacted the ebay seller and parallely wrote an e-mail to SMC customers support. The customer support hadn't returned to me with an answer, but the seller really did an exellent job troubleshooting the problem and sent me a link for a newer firmware version. After i had updated it, the L2TP connection worked and i could enjoy finally enjoy it. The WAN option in the router works smoothly (i don't have to dial up to my internet provider anymore!), but the wireless has some problems. First of all, i couldn't get an excellent reception via wireless even if my laptop was a meter away from the router. I tried to configure it differently many times, i had changed the channel from default 6 to 11 (after reading some discussions about it on web). It slightly improved, but not dramatically. I think that the problem might be in that "D-Link" antenna...Read full review
WGR614v10 has nice white stylish design Radio-Off button located in suitable place Complete set of routing features easy to configure No problem to NAT 100Mbps of wired traffic 802.11N support available in latest Firmware Version 1.0.2.26, but I have never seen more than 20Mbps speedtest via WGR614v10. Traditional 802.11G Linksys give me more throughput in the same environment. Netgear is stable but not fastest product.
This an excellent B&G router and is very easy to set up, if you have the Netgear installation disk, the one that Netgear included with the router when it was new. If you don't have the installation disk, this might be a fatal attraction: you can't download it. It's not available for downloading at Netgear's site. So, make sure the router comes with the installation disk and you should have no problems . . . The router I bought on Ebay came with the install disk. So it was very easy to set up and it is very nice. Works great. I have fours computer on the network and they are all humming along at 54 Mbps.
