Let me start off by saying that I own the previous Triumph restoration book (2007) written by these same authors. So it was with some anticipation that I looked forward to the release of this publication. First off; the preveiws on the web, including the publishers website state that this book will cover a start to finish restoration on a 59 and 62 Bonneville. It does not,(I was disappointed by this because I own a 62 Bonneville) it does however cover restoration on a 56 TR6 and 59 Bonneville. It also does not give year to year gallery coverage as the previous book did. It does give good coverage to disassembly, cleanup and reassembly (there are some good tips and tricks along the way) of the 2 models mentioned. Somewhat of a dissapointment as compared to the previous book, but if you have never been through your pre unit it may be helpful.Read full review
Typical Remus book... lots of pretty photos but short on details. Great inspiration for the guy who dreams about restoring a motorcycle some day, but probably won't. I really expected to learn something beyond what I already know from these "experts". Also, reference is made a few times to a violin-like musical instrument called a "viola". Maybe they meant to use the French term "voila". And yes, the Sullivan's are also mentioned, but I heard that even though all of their Triumphs are restored to museum quality, some can't be started because they don't have all of their engine internals and logically no oil. However, they do help to sell a lot of Triumph calendars and don't leak on the den floor! Well, as I said, it's a nice picture book.
I have only just purchased this Restoration book. The reason I purchased the book because I have a Pre unit 1951 Triumph Thunderbird, I am in the stage of making sure I have the correct parts before I start the restoration. I am sure this book will point me in the right direction in some areas, with is big pictures and explanations. I have no comments on bad points as I have not used the book yet. I would always purchase books to help me in my project.
