Still getting used to playing with this new driver... My first graphite shaft driver. I've used it only twice, but it has worked well thus far. I really need to get out to the range and get it dialed in. I had a Callaway "Biggest Big Bertha" (steel shaft) and seem to have the same distance off the tee. Noticed a slight draw though which is a nice addition. Sweet spot on the club is huge & forgiving. I also noticed a couple mis-hits ended up in a favorable playing position. Overall... VERY satisfied with the new equipment!
This club has a different feel to the previous Cobra Drivers I have used. I find that I have to slow down my swing in order to get the best out of the club. Having said that I have never hit as far as I can with this. My game means I go straight naturally so I have not had a reason to test the different settings of the club, but the next time I play a dog leg I might just give them a go. Looks great as well and the new design of the head cover to llok like the head of a Cobra is cool as well
The Cobra S3 driver is an excellent choice. It is adjustable to match different swing needs. A solid performer.
Verified purchase: Yes
I purchased a Cobra S3 max driver after several demos. It gave me a few more yards because the offset turned a fade into a straight shot or slight draw. I also picked up yardage because it is easier to hit and has a slightly longer shaft than my old driver(Cobra S1). Finally, I changed to a 10.5 degree regular shaft from a 11.5 degree senior shaft (demos are important to make this decision). The net result was a drive length change from 180/185 to 200/210. This does not sound like much--but I am 78 years old and trying to maintain a 17 hdc. However, you still need a short game to score, but length helps.
(For reference, 7-index, 108-113mph swing speed) I love this driver so much that I bought two! First, I must make it clear that I did not like this driver with the stock Blur shaft. The Blur his a soft tip with high torque at 5.5*. Resultingly, the shaft felt too weak and I could feel it twist on off-center contact. But I've tried two premium shafts in both my 9.5* and 10.5* clubheads. One is a Diamana Blueboard 73 and the other is a Matrix Ozik Code-6, both are stiff flex. The Diamana shaft was pulled out of my S2 driver with which I was inconsistent. But the shaft proves its value to me in the S3, entirely different results. The S3 is a night and day difference compared to the S2. With either shaft, I get a medium/high and strong ballflight. Great distance, and phenomenal forgiveness. Cobra says that they'd designed the S3 clubhead to have a more elliptical sweet-spot upon the face. Picture an angled oval that goes from the upper toe toward the lower heel. For years, I've struggled with contact out towards the toe as my hips would outrace my arms thus effecting my shoulder angle. While I'll never give up in my attempts to rid myself of this flaw, I'm ecstatic with the S3's ability to forgive this miss-hit almost entirely. Matter of fact, shots just toward the toe a bit give me the best distance with this club. A very, very welcomed surprise. To know me is to know that I routinely go through a carousel of drivers. I always keep what has worked somewhat and move the rest. Well, due to my complete satisfaction with this club, I'm keeping my two S3's and selling all of the rest. The S3 clubhead is a very solid and forgiving clubhead. It's a shame that the stock Blur shaft is so weak because it will lead many away from this impressive driver. But try this clubhead out in your favorite aftermarket shaft and... look out!Read full review
