I saw the First, now Fourth in set at age 8 squished in front row as lines were long and saw this looking up and it was damn good even straining my neck. Looking back it was a bit young as a space "war" with glory medals at the end let alone funds. Real wars also include booty of manufacturing and companies that are then in their hands with a different tone between soldiers and shrewd politicians and businessmen. I didnt get into merchandising. Thought trailer for 2nd was a bit hokey saying Darth Vader is his father hanging on this pole in space. Other fun scenes didnt pop out. Looking back, Flannery O'Conners story at end used this as a ploy when a white grandmother as last survivor says to mobsters Im your mother, he shoots her and says "Its no fun in life!" If your enemy at that point says I'm your father or I'll be, or thats the best I can be to save my life here, I dont know what I'll do. I saw this movie way later after 3rd in set ten years later. Theres no win or glory as in 1st or 3rd but characters now entwined in family drama and Solo now to be entwined in further. Is this like European monarchs or Caesars daughters or Napoleans and Leopolds nieces as nephews just get it wrong? Return of the Jedi was fun, actors were older, the long drawn fight scenes with two villains, but one quasi Darth, didnt seem long at all at the time in terms of fight scenes now with cgi and stunt doubles and choreography. In terms of using Yoda, I would think more adept hands on and thinking more outside the box at times using just a saber in a ho hum droll nowadays compared to some martial arts ones using swords. Merchandising is great, all in fun, not quite accurate as in real life theres the Dowager Empress who kills all her own to be the Empress like Darth, and the sense of motherly in history is never done right in film I feel. Maybe a few. The series is a phenomenon, young, catering to a wide range worldwide. A bit inaccurate here and there, could use nieces, nephews abdicate or subsume in wars and disappear, etc. Great series, damn good.Read full review

Not only is Star Wars a classic (It would have been a classic all by itself), they decided to make sequels that are as good as the original. Even if you don't like Sci-Fi, this is one of the best series of all time. The sequels are outstanding, and you grow to love the characters whether it's Han Solo, Yoda, Princess Leia, C3PO, Chewbacca, or Darth Vadar. Watching Luke Skywalker grow from just a young man into a Jedi is an excellent journey that you'll love to watch over and over again no matter your age. Actually, I recommend watching all 6 movies beginning with Episode 1, so you can watch the whole saga chronologically, especially the transformation of Darth Vadar. The Star Wars Trilogy is a required inclusion to any DVD collection. I own all 6 Star Wars movies, and so should you.
You might not believe this but Harry Potter almost snuffed out Luke Skywalker in our youth. If you have a child between the ages of 7-13 they may not know who Luke Skywalker is or what his history is. Because this character and story line are so deeply engrained in Pop culture it is important to dust it off and give it a re-play. If you are a teacher this is a wonderful example and classroom experiment into the classic Americana of storytelling. Orphan boy misses parents and longs for a better life only to get caught in some strange series of events that mold him into a man, then to struggle again when he must fight evil at its core. The older versions are still the best and you can buy with confidence. The newer films do not carry as much clout or deliver as clean of a story. Best to stay with the classics for kids and let them expand to the newer series after age 13. RICH CHICKS specializes in media that is purchased by women. The trilogy arrived quickly, wrapped in shrink wrap and was a present for my husband. We love Sci-Fi and George Lucas is such a creative genius. There are too many re-runs on TV. Whatever happened to the TV season beginning in September and ending about April? THEN, we must deal with re-runs for the summer. Now, we end up seeing re-runs in October! Therefore, I decided to get ahold of some DVD's that I knew that we would enjoy. The price seemed good, the item was new (how to they do that?) and so we are happy. About the DVD's, what more can one add about the classics? Episode 5 is my least favorite so my husband watched it alone. We both enjoyed episodes 4 & 6 and expect to watch them several times in the future. It's also fun to think back to when we originally saw the movies in the theater --- we had young children then and that brings back sweet memories. About the actual movies? If you like Sci-Fi, then invest in these classics!Read full review
It was time to add Star Wars to my fledgling DVD collection. Fell in love with Stars Wars in 1977, it's one of those films that is an American instisution. So good that Ronald Regan named his space program after it! It still holds the same thrill of the action packed sci-fi sage of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Hans Solo and of course the Wookie, Chewbacca teamed with the Jedis in their battle with the evil Darth Vadar. George Lucas is a maverick and pioneered much in the film industry with his first three films which has carried over to todays productions.(Can you imagine more recent sci-fi films without the special effects?) A must for any DVD collection.
