I am a Porter-Cable fan since I purchased a 12-volt drill over 10 years ago. However, PC stopped selling the batteries for my model and the current batteries were losing their charge a bit too soon. I could have purchased re-built batteries from a third-party source, but for a little more money, I could buy a brand-new 18-volt kit with two batteries and a charger, so the math was simple. This is my first 18-volt drill, and it performs marvelously. Unlike my previous model, which tended to nose forward when set on its base, this sits steady. In addition to the light that pinpoints the area of the work, the drill has a positive stop that stops the rotation of the drill once you release the trigger, so that the drill stops completely without your having to wait for it to come to a halt. And the 18 volts make a big difference. The 12-volt model was a little shy on torque and rpms for drilling through plaster and concrete, but this model had no difficulty with that. Not realizing that this could be sufficient for that kind of work, I purchased a new corded drill, but I haven't had to use it yet. A quibble: the chuck tends to loosen while in use, so that I had to frequently tighten it as I used it. If you're working in a high place, like on a ladder, this could be a problem. All in all, I really like the drill. I bought NiCads after reading about the problems with Lithium-ion batteries, but this model also accepts the Lithiums as well, so I can change over if I see the need. The drill is heavier as a result, but I don't spend a great deal of time drilling, so it hasn't been a problem.Read full review
First I have always loved Porter Cable tools. Used them all my life and I'm 65 years old. They last! I felt this promo was a very good value at this price. I was Right! I have used it several times now. I have no problem buying reconditions from a good company like Porter/Cable. Sometimes reconditioned is Better than new. To be fixed or re-coned they have to be done by hand. It has lots of power with 18 Volts. Very happy with my purchase so far. Cons: Only thing that is somewhat of a problem with it is that it is a bit clumsy and off balanced. The battery pack is so large that it it sometimes hard to get the drill in tight places. Also a little off balance. I would buy again! Plus my old 12Volt model purchased from Porter Cable in 1986 still functions perfectly. It's done a lot of work! Porter Cable.... Fine Tools!Read full review
This drill was a replacment for my old 12v. Rather then buy new batteries I bought this for less. If I had to find fault it is a bit heavy and can be tough getting into tight places. On the plus side it's strong and seems well built. did a fair amount of work and didn't need to change batteries. They are big and they last. All in all I'm very happy and the price was great.
I have had very good luck buying refurbished products. I like this drill for the fact that it is well balanced, ergonomicly friendly, powerful, easy to control and I love this drill compared to others I have owned and the price was right.
the Porter Cable drill works just as good as the other expensive cordless drill in the market. The extra battery and case make it more convenience for me.
