Let me tell ya if it weren't for The Chief of Security Odo/Constable Odo I've would have never had gotten interested in Deep Space Nine. The characters on this show are so cool!. My very first episode that I've seen was For The Cause in Season 4. I've seen that one I believe in June of 1996 when I started settling down in my new apartment. LOL I fell head over heals for Odo that I rode my bike all the way to the grocery store just to buy the tv guide to see when the next episode was going to come on. At first I cringed to watch it because I was mad that they have taken the next generation off of the air. But I had local tv and nothing else was on so I said what the neck I'll give it a shot. I've learned from that experience....Never judge a book by its cover because you never know what you are missing.Read full review

I love this show which is why I purchased this series. Unfortunately a lot of defectives discs were produce which is why (I believe) this series is now out of print. I purchased season 4 as a replacement due to the many defects. However the same defects appeared in this season 4 box set. I advise not to purchase this product or you may be disappointed when the discs begin to freeze up and or skips ahead ( usually during a layer jump). I have a disc that was never finalized. Paramount made a poor product. Hopefully Paramount will reissue the series with better manufactured prints. Shame on Paramount to release this fine series on poorly made discs.

After purchasing and viewing the first three seasons of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, there was no way I could resist buying the rest. Like most other television programs, the first season was a little shaky at times. The actors were getting used to their new skins, trying to find their place in the vast, oft-explored Star Trek universe, but that didn't prevent it from becoming the best of the modern Star Trek spin-offs, in my humble opinion. The number of excellent primary characters was unequaled by any other Star Trek series. Sure, TOS had the unbeatable trio of Kirk, Spock and McCoy,TNG had Picard and Data, Voyager was home to Seven of Nine, Tuvok, Janeway, but DS9 beats them all. Sisko, Kira, Dax and O'Brien were all strong characters, and then there are Odo and Quark, my personal favorites. The opening of the fourth season packs one heck of a punch. The Klingon Empire is taking preemptive action against the Dominion whether Starfleet likes it or not. Enter Worf. Sisko recruits the TNG favorite to deal with the new Klingon problems encountered by the crew of DS9. It only gets better from there. As the turning point in the series, Season 4 does a wonderful job of expanding the plot and developing the characters, old and new.Read full review
In this season, which is not one of the best in the series, we discover more things about ferengi, klingon and cardassian cultures. Several conflicts envolving the Federation, the Klingons and the Cardassians take place, with meaningful changes about the political situation of the Alpha Quadrant. There are some interesting encounters with the Jem'Hadar and the Founders, ad we begin to undestand more about the Dominion. Also, we follow some episodes where the relationship between the Alpha Quadrant and the Gamma Qoadrant starts to blur. Some characters, like Dr. Bashir and Worf, are faced with the dilemma between their duties and the needs of others, while other characters, like Quark, must decide between their life or the loyalty to their cultures. Many characters face significant changes in their lives, so that we can understand them better, as well as their roles in the series. At last, we still can't hear a word from Morn...Read full review
"All that you need to learn about life you can find in Star Trek." Shakespeare is the foundation of great literature because it speaks to all that is humanity. It is rare that any literature will attempt such a thing and even more rare to find television that attempts it. Now it seems television is happier and more profitable to capture its audience in mindless reality and game shows. Deep Space 9 offers you a chance to dwell on all those mysteries of what it is to be alive, or to be human, or moral or at war. It prophetically deals with social and international events that would occur only a few years from its production and it turns fanciful alien creatures into wisps of our own nature. It is excellent.
