I have been a fan of the original Star Trek series since it originally aired. This Blu-ray set is outstanding as it allows you to watch each episode as it was originally shown or in enhanced mode with improved color, sound, and special effects. The best part is I can watch whatever episode I want whenever I want instead of having to wait for reruns!

This is not TRUE Blu Ray HD Quality, (ie; 1920x1080 resolution). At best this is 480 and even less, and 4:3, picture is very grainy and unwatchable. This is NOT THE RE-MASTERED or even the original version. Also, the menu is a home made menu, and episodes skip, and freeze. Some Episodes, like "Mirror Mirror" The Audio is out of sync with the video by about 6 seconds. All episodes of one season (29 for season one) are jammed into one Blu Ray Disk, indicating they were reduced in quality to be able to fit them in. I'm glad whoever scored it a five is happy with theirs.

I grew up watching this series... It was like nothing I've ever seen.... A TV series ahead of it's time... I don't know how the TV company's did their measurement system in the in the 1960's but I would imagine would be a measured guess since most men worked 9 to 5 and wouldn't be part of the data used in Nielson's calculations... but by the number of trekkies that kept the series alive were obviously not counted in the Nielson's rating poll.. THANK, GOD !!!! This is the original series that made everything possible.... just remember this series was done in 1960's before computers that made the other spin-off's more popular with their computer graphic's... so you are watching history in the makings..... the special effects were few in the making but it was the actors who brought the characters alive and so real to audience's worldwide... so sit back and enjoy the series that started it all and doing it on the fly... GO STAR TREK !!!Read full review

This box set is loaded with features every Star Trek: TOS fan from newbie to diehard will value. Pros: --Each episode is viewable in its original or remastered format. --Easy toggling between format versions. --The remastering is subtle, not obtrusive. The character of the series remains entirely intact (e.g., star fields and planet views are more in keeping with post-1960's science, but the iconic, outer-space "Whoosh!" is still in place). --Loads of extras, including some commentaries (e.g., David Gerrold on "The Trouble With Tribbles"), Billy Blackburn's Treasure Chest (home movies, special memories, etc.) and the original, un-aired version of "Where No Man Has Gone Before". --Excellent picture and sound quality, especially on the remastered versions.* Cons: --*The 7.1 Surround Sound enhancement in the remastered versions can produce erratic volume on systems that aren't optimized for it. I've also noticed a tiny but annoying time delay between the picture and the sound on certain episodes. (I use an Oppo, which is one of the best players for this edition according to the discussions I've seen.) --Unlike the DVD box sets, scene selection screens are not offered on the discs. This is minor, but might be an annoyance for some viewers. --Pricey, though far less expensive than on the official site. Special caveat: The discs can be tricky to remove from and replace on their mountings in the cases, especially on the inner leaves. People with manual dexterity/proprioception issues may have more trouble with this. Overall, this is a must-have feast for Star Trek lovers, collectors and those who want to geek out with friends.Read full review

I doubt they could do any better restoring a TV show. When you consider the limitations of the original source material, I suspect this is as good as it will ever get.
