I bought this DVD mostly because its Star Trek, and the Next Generation portion of the Star Trek series is superb. Nemesis does not shine as brightly as First Contact or Insurrection by any means, but still holds its own as a Star Trek film. Supposedly it is the last film in the Next Generation series, which is very sad, but at the same time I feel like it was a somewhat pleasing ending. I highly recommend this for any Trek fan, and for everyone else, it's still a pretty fun ride, just depends on how much you love Patrick Stuart and Brent Spiner, as for me there's no question there.
This is a controversial Star Trek TNG movie, the last movie that will feature the crew of the Enterprise "as seen on TV," because in the end, Riker leaves to take his own command and Data meets his demise (maybe). It is a highly sophisticated plot, featuring -- and I love this -- the first beautiful, painfully beautiful, brilliantly beautiful, Star Trek villain since Kahn. Shinzon, a younger and damaged clone of Piccard, is an elegant and twisted adversary who navigates a pained course between enemy and victim with graceful intensity. Extraordinary SFX and labyrinthine plot twists raise tantalizing questions of selfhood, the enemy within, the friend in unexpected places. Some of the acting on the part of the Enterprise crew players is less than committed in parts (Tom Hardy, playing the excruciatingly nuanced Shinzon, puts them to shame) and some scenes are a little too talky, but despite these flaws, I think this film elevates the entire Star Trek film subgenre with philosophical questions that range beyond the Roddenberry frontier. I am in the minority in lauding this movie. While it is a must-have for a Star Trek collector, many fans felt let down by a plot model that concentrates less on the Enterprise gestalt and more on the plot, the antagonist and the action. It had a decidedly underwhelming reception at the box office. The DVD, unfortunately not a director's cut, enhances the package considerably. It is loaded with truly fine extras which offer a lot of juicy TNG dish. If you get a good price on this DVD, I recommend it highly.Read full review
Yet another star trek movie, and a good one. This movie measured up well with the action-packed journeys that former star trek episodes enjoy. With a new cast this movie moves right along, is full of excitement and suspense, and has a good plot (which I won't spoil before you enjoy it). This product was in good shape, was delivered quickly, and was ready right out of the box to make for an evening's enjoyment. I would certainly suggest that anyone who enjoys the star trek adventures look to secure this movie (a great addition to your library). You will not be disappointed.
I bought this product because I am a "trekkie". The movie was kind of slow to start, but it quickly captured my attention and kept it. You really want the person associated to Picard to show more of the Picard judgement we have come to expect. The ending is sad, but it is also a new beginning for other characters. A definite must to add to anyone's Star Trek collection.
disc is perfect.
