I have had an opportunity to view the remastered first episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 1 (Far Point). The quality is amazing. In addition, from a production point of view, you can now see things, that you weren't ever expected to notice. IE: carpet pieces on the bridge, hiding wires, etc. -The CGI is so good, it seems out of place, less real. I think it's a matter of getting used to. -What we had in SD, since the late 80's was believable for the time. (viewed on a 21" Zenith tube TV)... -I had the original DVD release in 2002. I was so disappointed, It didn't look good at all. Why? Because a lot of the post processing was done in video. There was no way to recover. -Now Paramount has painstakingly redone all the elements from scratch, I suppose, 10 years ago, it was virtually impossible to this. Modern technology and painstaking effort have allowed them to go back to the original negatives and basically rebuild each episode from the ground up. -Bravo, what a true recovery. -Now, what do we do about those black bars? :-)Read full review
Growing up not knowing exactly what Star Trek was, I stumbled on this show that intrigued me. It held my attention for a while but as time passed other new and exciting things distracted me from the show and it was lost to me. Years later I got bitten by the Star Trek bug and after watching all of the TOS episodes and loving them, figured I'd revisit an old friend. After watching all of the season 1 episodes, I quickly realized what attracted me to the show the first time around. The cast and the acting were extremely good along with most of the episodes and the writing. Knowing that this was a precursor for what was to come has made me want to rush out to buy the rest. Season 1 of TNG is by far not the best of the series but it lays the groundwork for it and is essential for the show and stands up on its own. Giving it a 5/5 rating wasn't easy but I've come to love these characters and seeing them in their infancy was something to behold. Season 1 is a great opening to an excellent run of shows that I believe is some of the best Trek out there.Read full review
