This is the third book on Pool written by Jack Koehler that I have purchased. It is well written, and Jack uses both his pool and science knowledge to explain all aspects of the game including breaks, safety play, handicapping and table difficulty. The book has a good balance of text and graphics to guide the reader/player to a higher level of play. Some readers may find the book to be "rocket science" at first glance, but if you follow the authors guidance on how to use the text, you will not be disappointed. I feel that it is an invaluable book for the person who wants to gain complete knowledge on the sport of pocket billiards.

A technical work for the layperson. Mr Koehler lays out the frame work then builds a compelling journey of mechanical observation and practical application. Hobbyists, bar players and league players would gain from just the first few chapters while the material beyond is sufficiently technical as to hone the skills of Vegas pros and seasoned enthusiasts without putting anyone to sleep. The syntax is energetic and engaging. An amazing amount of detail! The non-technical topics range from psychology of the game to how much sleep do you need before a tournament. Not just physics and jargon as one might think. The material is well formatted with charts and diagrams and is written with love of the game in mind, not flamboyance or pomp. If you have never played a few racks of pool this may not be the best starter book. However, it is perfect reference for anyone who has played the game and wants to play more and play better! Just the tip on how to calculate angles with a pool cue nearly paid for the whole book. Pocket difficulty was also helpful in understanding my cursed luck on some tables. As a league player and lover of all things Billiard, I am ingesting and actively applying the information in this book. I would recommend it to anyone seeking to improve their skills in 9BALL. It is comprehensive, sensibly laid out and easy to read. A libram of entertaining facts and forehead slapping statistics relevant to the game. A truly upscale production.Read full review

The wrong book(another Jack’s book) was mistakenly sent, Jack resent the correct book and also allowed me to keep the other book. Really appreciate your generosity. I have just started reading the book, so not much review on it. But loving my purchase.

Don’t let the title Upscale 9 Ball fool you. This book is perhaps one of the most comprehensive works on the game of pocket billiards, not just 9 ball. Highly recommended for any serious student of the game
