If you are a new beekeeper or are considering keeping bees you should read this book. The author covers the practical aspects of starting and maintaining a beehive. The book has good pictures and will answer many questions that a new beekeeper has. Reading this book will give you the knowledge and confidence to order and install a package of bees and get them off to a good start and show you what to look for during the season and how to work the hive, harvest honey and prepare the bees for winter. This book is geared towards people starting out, but I would consider it a "must read" for experienced beekeepers as well. I still re-read this book at least once a year and never fail to learn something from it.
I just retired and starting up beekeeping as a hobby. I am in the process of learning about bee keeping. I have purchased and read several books about bee keeping and this is one I just purchased. This is a great book for beginning bee keepers. It covers all the basics. The book has a great introduction that discusses the commitment that bee keeping requires. Just a few of the key areas covered include: 1. How to get started 2. The Bees 3. What is required to be done season by season 4. Extracting the Honey 5. Nice chapter discussing bee diseases, etc. Not a lot of pictures - but the illustrations that are included are very clear and helpful, especial the timelines. Hope this helps.
My bad. This book is not current.

Helpful info, especially for the novice.

This book is one of the best I've come across for the first time beekeeper. It has some good history, discusses options, and doesn't assume you know things you don't know. Very easy to read and follow.
