This is a lovely deck set. It contains the large deck, a large full sized book, not a pamphlet sized book, all in a nice large box. The cards are a little larger than many decks, on nice thick cardstock and are very durable. The book is larger and easier to read than small paper inserts that come in smaller deck packaging. And the box is nice, would be a prettier version to give as a gift. This deck also comes in the smaller style box that barely fits the desk with the small insert booklet for a few dollars less. I think it's worth the extra money for the better book. The deck artwork is lovely and resonated with me immediately. It's verdant, rich and alive, watercolor engravings, lovely colors, with lovely Celtic highlands style imagery. Also, it uses a Ride-Waite style portraying card images similar to what most users expect. I personally hate when a deck strays too far from the norm so the images make it hard to remember the meanings of cards. If you just collect decks, changing everything around might be ok, but, if you are using them and also newer to tarot, it helps to have imagery that is expected. Maybe that's just me. I can't say enough about how love this deck is. My favorite deck so far.Read full review
I have fallen deeply in love with this outstanding, vivid, elegant and otherworldy Tarot. I am a traditional witch, and as this is a Wiccan based deck, there are some irritants, but as it is also very heavily Druid based (more so than Wiccan) there is so much here that meshes and sings to me in a profound way. There is real, awesome power and magic here. The colours rich, sumptious and yummy. The art leaves me speechless with it's sheer lushness, breathtaking beauty and intense detail. What really blows me away in this deck is the depiction of the British countryside, grassy, mossy, hilly, dappled, sensual - the impression, when one looks at these cards, of standing in front of an door that opens on unspoilt nature. The trees, shrubs and flowers are so well done! Gnarled mossy barks of oaks that serve as seat, refuge or marriage bed to various characters, young-old peeling barks of birches, soft grasses mingled with curling ferns, flowers delicately drawn and coloured; waters that reflect the skies, the surrounding vegetation and the moods of the characters... This is the one Tarot deck I can hear the people "speak", like I could walk (or fall into!) into the images. A dream within a dream. Some of these cards created an intense reaction within me that I still feel when I gaze at them. The dark presence of Cernunnos, at the same time benevolent protection and dark cthonian promise, fulfilling and haunting paradise...Death, with the crone holding the skull, and her cauldron of endings I love the Three of Swords, because of its emphasis on creative thought - it also shows how thought linked to nature and endurance (the oak) can help us overcome trouble. I cannot recommend this deck enough! Even if you're not Pagan or Wiccan you will fall madly in love with the images and how intuitive and flowing this deck reads. My readings have taken on a completely new dimension, capturing a primordial deep essence of my soul. The cards are quite large, it's a must to drink in the sheer detail and beauty. Though one could easily cut off the white borders and perhaps the stone borders as well..... The book is wonderfully written. Complex but written in a very understandable manner. Reading through the book was a delight and helped the cards come alive for me. The section on the Courts is nothing short of amazing. A must read!! I especially love how he starts with the Outer mysteries (minor arcana) first, grouping them by numbers, then preceding with the Inner Mysteries. I saw and experienced so many wonderful and profound card connections. This is a keeper of a book and indispensible as a companion to this magnificent deck. Ahhhhh how I wish this deck was available when I discovered I was a Witch (and always had been) back in 1989. You can't go wrong with this Tarot, it's a rare, rare sparkling jewel.Read full review
I had been looking for this deck for awhile.......and was seeking one at a fair price. This seller offered just that! The deck is magnificent in it's artwork, symbolism, and the book that comes with it gives the best insights to the cards that I've seen in my tarot reading career (over 25 years) The only thing I would change is the size of the deck itself-it may prove a challenge for those with small hands like myself. It makes clear that reading the cards shows the possibilities that lie ahead in the present moment-which I feel is important. Too many who have their cards read seem to have the impression that whatever the cards show is "writ in stone",and nothing could be further from the truth. This a most wonderful source of Druidic wisdom while offering the Wiccan views at the same time-the blending of the two paths is something to be admired. My only cautionary note would be that one of the Major Arcana is totally nude....if any are offended by nudity and/or anatomically correct drawings, you may want to see a demo of this deck at a local store before bidding on one here. Moonlit Blessings!Read full review
Modern Druidry evokes images in those undeducated in the ways of Gods, Goddesses, Nature, and Inner Religion of men in robes climbing trees, dancing at Stonehenge or practicing some strange and secret Ways. Well, maybe two images out of three are telling. Modern Druidry is a lifeway that is, in part, preserved and taught through OBOD, that is the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids in England. Offering three levels of education and many levels of involvement in person and via the Web, OBOD's staff collaborated to produce this stirring and artful deck of cards meant to be consulted and meditated upon. Similar in structure to the older Standard Rider-Waite deck, it is varied enough to stand on it's own Tradition and in it's own Right. Feeling the energy from this deck of cards is an easy and tangible experience, even for those unused to energy therapy, energy healing or energy directing. With a small amount of concentration and reading about the different symbols and nuances, a meaningful message complete with how the cards influence each other and paint an accurate picture regarding the issue at hand is remarkably acheivable, even for the rankest beginner. In the hands of One who is attuned to His or Her inner Self, the results are astounding. I rank this deck as equal to the venerated R-W deck, and perhaps even superior in many ways. This deck will especially appeal to those who follow the Celtic or Briton Paths, and those who do will recognize much allegory and symbology of their Faith. Either as a primary deck or as a second (or sixth) deck, I highly recommend exploring this Celtic collection for those so inclined. By Star and Stone, ... / |Read full review
