This Kreg plug cutter is expensive I think, but I bought it because they no longer produce walnut plugs. I have just used it a few times so far but I am very impressed with the quality of plugs it produces. With walnut, one just wants to go slow in cutting the plugs in order for them to turn out perfect. It is very well made and I expect many years of service from the product.

While using the Kreg pocket hole joiner system to rebuild the framework of our patio using rough cut cedar 6 x 6's, 4 x 4's and 2 x 4's, I wanted to be able to plug the joining holes and purchased the Kreg plug hole cutter HD. I read online it could be used with the Kreg K3, K4, and K5 systems so I when I installed it on my K5, I found out I could not use the scrap 2 x 4's pieces as they were too wide to fit. Had I been using 2 x 4's, they would have fit. However, by using one of my wood clamps to secure the plug cutter to the 2 x 4' as well as the 4 x 4' and 4 x 6' scrap pieces I was able to get all of the plugs I needed to finish the job.

Plugs came out good. I didn't buy the whole jig, just the plastic guide which clamped to the edge of the board. Worked great. I could space them close together to save wood. You don't need the special jig to clamp the wood.

The product is simple but gives you a lot of savings. You can make custom plug for your pocket hole using the most similar stock of your choice to conceal/hide holes. You don't need to buy plugs and save you a lot of money on your project. I recommend this to all DIY's and professionals.
