I bought this mainly because Johnny Marr from The Smiths and Ira Kaplan from Yo La Tengo used one and they are two of my favorite musicians. The OD-2R has higher output than the OD-2. As it's name suggests its more overdrive than buzz-guitar distortion. It's just what I need to play certain Smiths songs.

this is a very smooth overdrive. very natural sounding allowing guitar to maintain it's character. Not a gritty, fuzzy, or jagged sounding effect. sounds like an overdriven tube amp, just like the name implies. Priced affordably, too.

I was in a bar when I was blown away by the guitarist's tone. When I got the chance I asked him about his gear. I was shocked to learn he use the Boss OD-2 all the time, AND IN TURBO MODE! I was shocked because I have a DS-2 and I don't like it, especially in Turbo Mode. I'm not a fan of any Boss distortion or overdrive boxes. Now I too have a Fender Deluxe amp and an OD-2 pedal, and wow, they are a perfect match. Like chocolate and milk .... the two compliment each other very well. From blues to classic rock, this is a winning combination. Oh, with humbuckers. Never tried single coils with it.
A great value. Very well built like most all Boss Pedals. It is very versatile and you tune a lot different tones. I think this a great buy on this pedal.

The Boss OD-2 Turbo Overdrive is like two pedals in one. You have the regular OD and then a hotter "Turbo" OD. Very versatile gain box.
