Most of Aladdin Sane was written while David Bowie and the Spiders from Mars were on tour giving the album a feeling of being all over the place. Bowie manages to make this a good thing and not a flaw to the album. Unlike The Rise And Fall of Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane is not a concept album which makes it capable to Bowie to write songs about different subjects and not just one which makes the album fresh after repeated listenings. Bowie experiments with different styles of music from the Doo Wop feel he gives to Drive In Saturday, to the bluesy feel in The Jean Genie, and the jazzy/bluesy piano in Aladdin Sane (1913-1938-197?). This album is also his heaviest, there are no acoustic tracks like his previous albums. All around this is one of Bowie's finest albums. 1.Watch That Man 5/5 Great start to the album but it sounds a little to much like The Stones to me. 2.Aladdin Sane (1913-1938-197?) 5/5 A perfect song though some people might find the piano annoying. 3.Drive In Saturday 4.5/5 Great song expecially the sax in the background. 4.Panic In Detroit 4/5 Weakest track in the album and again, it sounds a little too much like the Stones. 5.Cracked Actor 5/5 The heaviest song in the album, sounds great though it took some listens for me to really appreciate it. 6.Time 5/5 Great song in the style of Life On Mars? The riff reminds me of a Pink Floyd song that appears in the Wall. 7.The Prettiest Star 5/5 Very campy. Balances the album and keeps it from being too heavy. 8.Let's Spend The Night Together 4/5 Good attempt at covering a Stone's song but The Stones do it better. 9.The Jean Genie 5/5 Good song. It is not even close to being punk like some reviews say. It is more like a Led Zeppelin blues' Song. 10.Lady Grinning Soul 5/5 Similar to The Prettiest Star but their is a piano in this song instead of a sax.Read full review
One of the must have old Bowie albums. I bought a Bowie Greatest hits, but you don't get the difference in the true feeling of Bowie's album presentations.

Had this as an 8 track way back when and it brings back great memories. I think it is one of his best. Love it.

I just couldn't go any longer without hearing the title song again. After all these years that piano solo still stands alone.(Mic R. was actually playing though.) It's hard to say this is his best album, what with all attributed to Ziggy. This was 15 yrs. old when I was listening to it at 18, so I missed Bowie while he was paving the way through the 70's. The album I would say has a raw, sweaty, sexuality, to it that came to embody Bowie's essence. A beautiful nostalgic experience with the master of glam.
