Everyone has that special time in their lives, when they pass from childhood, to being their own person. Of discovering who they really are, an unforgettable time of people, and events, that shape the rest of your life. For me, that was 1974. I spent the summer at a wilderness type church camp, Sleeping in tents, hiking, canoing, and swimming. The first day there, I met a girl, we'll call her "Tammy", that I wasn't to spend 5 minutes away from the rest of the the summer. We both had steady people we were with back home, but for that one magical summer, we belonged to each other. We would sit at nights around the camp fire, while our "counselor" played his guitar, and sang. We had zipped our 2 sleeping bags together, and while the other 8 campers would eventually slip of to the tents for sleep, Tammy and I would fall asleep by the fire, listening to the music of our leader. The songs he performed, were from the "Fairwell Andromeda" album of John Denver, released the previous year. I shall never play that album without, at least for a moment, being back at that camp fire with Tammy. Sweet Misery, a Hoyt Axton song was sort of "our song", and I'm sure it will be enjoyed by all who here it. "Rocky Mountain Suite" (Cold Nights In Canada) captured the spirit we felt that summer, of communing with nature, as we were. "We don't live here no more" was an anthem of the time. The whole album is absolutely fabulous, and for me was the soundtrack to the most special summer of my life. I know you too will enjoy one of John Denvers least well known albums, that is perhaps his most moving! By the way, after camp ended, I never again saw, or talked to Tammy, perhaps as it should be. I became engaged to my steady, and , as they say, life went on. But in my heart, I'll never forget Tammy, or the magical summer romance we had, on the road to becoming a man. blast from the past! A fun, entertaining recording of an old favorite. My husband has the guitar songbook of this album & enjoys reminiscing the old days of John Denver.
Love John Denver and all of his songs; brought so many memories back! and he is so missed and was so young when taken away from us. Now I get to listen to his songs again and again.
