Another Green World is probably one of the most important albums in rock and pop music history. I know that "pop" has a negative connotation, but trust me, this is not your average pop album. There are only five songs with lyrics, and the other nine are all instrumentals. Sky Saw starts out with a harsh repeating synth sound that really sounds like the sky is being sawed in two. The drums (provided by Phil Collins) and the fretless bass are amazing. Other highlights are St. Elmo's Fire with Robert FRipp's amazing guitar solo and the slow and haunting Golden Hours. The instumentals are all great and a lot of them paint pictures as to what the title is. For instance, Little Fishes actually reminds me of looking at fish swim around in an aquarium. Other examples of these "picture paintings" are In Dark Trees, Sombre Reptiles, and Spirits Drifting. The songs Becalmed and Zawinul/Lava are the beginnings of Ambient Music, a genre invented by Eno himself! Both songs are so calming and yet in no way boring. Zawinul/Lava is one of the most haunting songs I have ever heard. Overall this is an amazing album from start to finish. There is not one second of wasted space, every song is essential to the album. This is the kind of music that will stick with you the rest of your life.Read full review
Eno's "Another Green World"; what word describes the LP?,what kind of music is it?,why can't there be more records like this one?, is it perfect 70's music? . The answers to these questions above are: STUNNING; GREAT; BECAUSE THIS ONE IS UNIQUE; YES! . I STILL return to this album, why?! Because it IS perfect ! Fripp's guitar,Cale's viola,Collins' drumming/percussion,Percy Jones' killer bass riffs,Rudolph's bass,Turrington's bass,Rod Melvin's piano/keys,Eno's voice and devices!; they are all beautiful brushstrokes(I bet Fred Frith wishes he got he got to play, and even Pete townsend,Ian McDonald, who are listed by Eno with THANKS!); it is like Eno created amazing music on each track/song, from only he knows where! God gave him musical talent, he STILL today has something new to say with THIS LP FROM 1975!! The processed guitars, drum machine generators; HAS ANYONE TODAY EVEN COME CLOSE TO THIS PERFECTION?! From "Sky saw" to Everthing Merges with the Night" each song is a unique piece that STILL, I know I repeat myself here, but it is TRUE!, each song STILL today never gets boring or dated in any way! What other LP can you say that about?!The only one that comes close, maybe, is King Crimson's "Lizard" 1971 LP . Only critique: I wish it was a double Lp, ah, but that would be music greediness, would it not?! God bless, great Lp Eno, bring everyone back, and add Peter Gabriel,Bjork,Phillip Glass; they all stole from "Another Green World" ! To sum up, if you still have not heard this 1975 LP by Brian Eno,what are you waiting for?! It is the BEST, I repeat BEST lp of the 70's !!Read full review
This remastered recording from ’75 catches Eno in transition between glam art rock and his venture into electronic/ambient recordings. An essential album for eno and electronic fans both, with Phil Collins on drums, guitarist Robert Fripp, and John Cale on viola.
At first the vocals might be a little too much and the lyrics a bit childish. But the surroundings wrap it all up and make sense of it.
IT'S ENO
