Swiss band Sybreed describes their album best on their website: "a fast yet melodic extreme metal filled with futuristic ambiances, relentless, blasting parts shifting to epic choruses, tortured screams melting with desperate yet crystal clear voices, all that converging to make you feel like the last man on earth, lost on the edge of the world, witness of the end of civilization." This is exactly the feeling that the album creates. Though the lyrics have mostly contemporary meaning, there is no doubt that the sound of Antares was designed to invoke a "dark futuristic" feeling. The listener feels like he/she is traveling through the cold darkness of space, surrounded by monumental and uncontrollable forces. Sybreed does a great job of integrating synthetic sounds and electronic beats with heavy, low-tuned guitars and technical drumming. Vocals come in several varieties: harsh and convincing screaming, clean vocals, and synthetically-modulated whispers. Sybreed mixes these up frequently to create a unique experience with each song. This is a completely original CD, and I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys European metal or dark-themed metal or rock of any kind. Listeners of low-tuned bands such as Gojira and Meshuggah will find Antares especially appealing.Read full review
An amazing industrial/cyber metal album! Every song gives you a reason to listen and the grooves combined with variations and constantly changing sections make each song drastically different from the last. It was extremely well produced as well and the final song, Ethernity, ends the album with a 9 minute long epic that makes me feel like I'm listening to the soundtrack of the Universe :)
