I'm a guitarist who has played (and loved) metal for over a decade and after being saved began to seek out bands in the genre that lifted the name of Jesus!!! Most bands in the genre "water down" their message (to gain mainstream acceptance I'm sure)but not this band. Although they do have metaphorical songs like all bands there are at least 2 or 3 songs that flat out proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ. Musically, few come close. Intertwining death metal, hardcore, and thrash with classical musical influences the music has a lot of depth, dynamic and emotions. Great break downs, interludes, solos through out take this band/album beyond what most bands can do...take you for a ride with many twists and turns. I gave it a good rating because Excellent to me is a "PERFECT" record which this is not...but it comes extremely close. The album is a great buy for anyone who wants a metal band that isn't afraid to take changes, is influenced my many genres, loves going on a musical ride and desires a band that can and is frank about who they do it for...JESUS CHRIST!!!! Favorite songs: Dichotomy, St. Anne's Lullaby, Ransom and Deep Heaven (all songs are good but these really stick out to me as great)!!! John 14:6 - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by meRead full review
This is a well-crafted work of metal. The mouth-watering scales in the riffs from "Terminate Damnation" are gone, but the sci-fi/spiritual content from "The Physics of Fire" is even better on this one. Instead of one overall story in the album, there are several presnted here which must be understood to fully appreciate this work. Check out some sample lyrics from "Artificial Immortality" "Technology will conquer, Biology will fall Machines provide the means for the chosen few To rise up and be immortal Discard the body to elevate the intellect Remove the head, remove the soul, implant the artificial Remove the head, remove the soul, dehumanize... NO! I am not a mechanism I am part of the resistance I am an organism An animal, a creature, I am A BEAST!" Dichotomy could be labeled as progressive metalcore - with tons of keyboards and melodies mixed in with the crushing tones. There is a lot of variety in the lead (i.e scream/growl) vocals that wasn't seen before and I think everyone will appreciate it. There is limited use of clean vocals with harmony and even female vocals (don't worry, it's only in one place). Feast your ears on the masterful production and get caught up the storyline. I'm thinking of seeking rehab so that I can stop listening to it.Read full review
Becoming The Archetype hit the Christian Metal scene with mega hurricane force with Terminate Damnation. My opinion is that their second album, Physics Of Fire, wasn't quite as good but was still a sophmore success as they continued to plow new avenues in the Christian Metal arena. With Dichotomy, the band went back to it's heavy hard-core Christian Death Metal roots which is why I was turned on to them initially. I think Dichotomy is an exellent album whether you compare it with other Christian Metal or with Metal from any category. With some of the best Christian lyrics in the Metal category (and I would say competes with contemporary, praise, rock, alternative, etc.!) with Dichotomy, you can't go wrong.
I had this CD once before and I must have lost it. I'm glad I found it again! A little more than I would have liked to pay, but, it's fine.
