Great recording. They should play it on the radio.

Perhaps THE great underground classic of the era, ARMAGEDDON is only now being discovered by fans, thanks to insightful reissues by Esoteric. I actually have a vinyl copy from back in the day, but mostly by luck: I found a copy in a cut out bin, and the jacket was so intense I figured it had to be good. I was right. Martin Pugh's guitar playing is strong and melodically interesting, with great riffs and strong lead work(even if he does steal the lead off riff from his own STEAMHAMMER song!) Keith Relfs vocals suit the material and appear stronger than his work with the seminal YARDBIRDS. The songs are lyrically interesting and diverse enough so that even when they approach repetition, it seems to add to the mood and eerie ambience. This is a GREAT Hard Rock album, make no mistake. Truly a "Supergroup" when you add Louis Cennamo, one of the most innovative bass players of the age and the great Bobby Caldwell on drums(like a more articulate Cozy Powell). This is a Hard Rock/Psychedelic classic that was probably too late for its age, but certainly ready for re-discovery today. This album and CAPTAIN BEYOND are the unheralded masterpieces of the 70's that are finally getting the accolades and audience the deserve!Read full review
