Stars Of The Lid are more known for their last 2 double albums titled "The Tired Sounds Of Stars Of The Lid" and "Stars Of The Lid And Their Refinement Of The Decline", which are both excellent works. But in their prior discography, there is this short album named "Per Aspera Ad Astra" that didn't get much attention from their fans and the reviewers. "Per Aspera Ad Astra" is the perfect ambient album to listen at night, when you feel totally alone and isolated. The really subtle sounds make the whole thing so depressing and deep, that it easily takes the listener's mind to another world. My favorite tracks are definitely "Low Level (Listening)+ Part 3" and "Anchor States Part 2", because they make me feel like I am dreaming, or still in my mom's belly, away from the reality. I find this too bad that this misunderstood masterpiece was not really acclaimed, but at least I understand the feeling that the artists (including Jon McCafferty, who painted the album art) tried to express in various manners. I congratulate Stars Of The Lid for releasing "Per Aspera Ad Astra", an atmospheric album I'll never forget.Read full review
