I did not initially buy this album when it first came out. I was out living my life and not acquiring any music. Last year I wanted to catch up on missed favorite groups and bought this album on CD. There are few likable tunes here. It's like ELO and Jeff Lynne hit a flat spot. This collection of tunes is beneath their capabilities and I recommend that you pass on this one.

It's hard to find a song on any ELO album that is bad. Jeff Lynne's songwriting skills are excellent. To understand where Lynne was at this time in his career means you understand he was about to disband ELO, so many of the lyrics are sad, but the music is upbeat and melodious and sweet. Calling America is a true example of how savvy Lynne was at writing a top 40 hit, and he wrote so many. All I can say is the record is probably not ELO's finest, but if you like ELO can you really ever get enough?
Awesome album!
