Finally, after 22 years, the first 4 British albums from The Beatles are avaialble on CD in real, true Stereo, for the very first time ever! Their third album was the soundtrack to their feature film debut, "A Hard Day's Night". This was also the first, and only, time that an entire Beatles album contained only original compositions that were written by the Lennon-McCartney sogwriting team. When it was first released as a vinyl LP, the 7 songs from the film were on side one, with the 6 non-soundtrack songs on side two. This running order has been maintained for the CD release, presenting these 13 songs in the same order. The song that opens the album and the film is, of course, "A Hard Day's Night", with its distinctive opening guitar chord that comes crashing in like a bolt of lightning. This is followed by the other film songs; "I Should Have Known Better", "If I Fell", "I'm Happy Just To Dance With You", "And I Love Her", "Tell Me Why" and "Can't Buy Me Love". The additional songs consist of "Any Time At All", "I'll Cry Instead" (which was originally recorded for the film, but was withdrawn at the last minute), "Things We Said Today", "When I Get Home", "You Can't Do That" and "I'll Be Back". The entire album retains a fun spirit and overall freshness that still holds up quite well. The remastering job done at EMI is brilliant, with the songs being crisp and clear in stereo, even sounding better than before. If there is any one album that totally sums up and completely epitomizes Beatlemania, it is "A Hard Day's Night".Read full review

Additional personnel: George Martin (piano). Recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London, England and EMI Pathe Studios, Paris, France. A HARD DAY'S NIGHT was the first Beatles album of all-original material, and the first to feature George Harrison playing his Rickenbacker electric 12-string guitar (on the opening chord of "A Hard Day's Night," for instance). The distinctive sound of the 12-string inspired countless guitarists including Roger McGuinn and David Crosby of the Byrds. The film from which these songs hail remains a classic combination of happy 1960s naivete and nascent hipster wit. Many of the most important rock bands to emerge in the latter half of the '60s came into being because of A HARD DAY'S NIGHT's irresistible vibrancy. The tunes flow like the finest red wine, as the title track leads to the glorious harmonica of "I Should Have Known Better" and the powerfully poignant "If I Fell."Read full review
These guys in my oppinion suck, and ill tell you why. More than half the time they were on drugs and most of their lyrics dont make sense, save for a few songs like yesturday, which i admit is an amazing song, but most of their songs are randomly put together, they make a guitar riff and replay over and over through out the song, like a hard days night, and half their other songs atleast. their drummer isnt very talented, doesnt do much exept your standard beat that i was playing at 5 years old. they let a chick brake up the band, i mean, why does everyone love them, they dont know how to write, they have a million songs that they all half assed, the only meaningful songs they have are the ones they put time into and reflected on the personal lives, which they didnt do much, and when they did they over did it. like the song let it be. he says let it be a million times, okay we get it ill leave it alone.Read full review
It's kind of strange to write a review for a sixties band in the year 2008 but Beatles music is timeless. There's nothing like rediscovering the Beatles after fasting for awhile and finding the music is still great. I bought this cd for a couple of songs that weren't on the anthology cd that I already have. There's only one song I don't really like called When I Get Home. I love the rest of them with my personal favorites being, If I Fell, And I Love Her, Things We Said Today and I'll Be Back.
The Beatles Music was written WAY before their time. I saw them perform in 1964 at The Hollywood Bowl. Most of what I heard came from girls screaming. In the sea of girls, they were dropping like flies in the aisles. Having seen all the greats, The Beatles Concert was the most profound experience I have ever had at a Concert. To this day, I have yet to hear any band as clever, witty, talented, whimsical, mind-blowing, and stellar as The Beatles. I really think G-d blessed us when those four men shared their gift of music with the world. I hope it happens again in my lifetime.
