This album is everything I love about Herbie Hancock. It is pure funk at it's best featuring Paul Jackson on electric bass,Mike Clarke on drums and Bill Summers on percussion, bringing us an amazing rhythm section.Herbie with the use of 3 ARP synthesizers and the classic Fender Rhodes electric piano gives us his trademark genius funk keyboard style.Thrust(1974) is the follow up album to Headhunters(1973) and is the second album produced with his new quintet(Although Drummer Harvey Mason was replaced by Mike Clarke for the Thrust album). I love all of Herbies' work from the Miles Davis days right up to the present day but I think Headhunters and Thrust are definitive of his unique style and will be my favourite funk albums for all time. I have so much respect for Herbie who will be 70 this year 2010 and can't think of any other musician who at that age is still writing and producing such fine quality music! Long live Mr.Hancock!!Read full review
If you like funky 1970'S music containing super funky bass lines , ace keyboard riffs and cool sax work combined with interesting percussion you might enjoy this album alot. Sometimes i find i need to be in the right mood to listen to this because it is a bit relentless and repetetive but when the mood takes me this rocks.
