The 1999 release from Legacy sounds better than the original 1990 release. Yet, in a departure from the usually-reputable Legacy and how they do remasters, the sound is not as good compared to the 2002 compilation release “The Ultimate Kansas.” The latter release is also from Legacy, so it’s curious as to how the two differ in quality. If you’re up for buying used CDs, you’ll not see a big price difference between the single “Best Of” compilation and the double-disc “Ultimate.” The double-disc set has more songs you’re sure to enjoy as well as better sound quality and probably a very competitive price. As with the original CD release and the song “Perfect Lover” which was included solely on that set, the second “Best of” compilation has the song “The Devil Game” which is not on the “Ultimate” release. “Perfect Lover” isn’t too bad, but I’d suggest previewing the song first to see if you like it before buying the 1990 release. “The Devil Game” is from the band’s 1975 debut release. This is music that was all talent. Before rock and metal bands in and around the year 2000 and afterward started to put out CDs with symphony orchestra music, Kansas was doing it in the 1970s. It was all about the music not how they looked. It's great to here songs you loved, remastered to sound even better. There are great songs and hits on this Cd, like Dust in the Wind, Carry On Wayward Son, Point of no Return. This is Great solid Hard Rock! Great vocals and Great Music. If you like ELO, Boston, STYX, This Kansas Cd should be in your collection. You can't forget bands like Kansas. They were the stepping stones of the bands we have today.
