If you are looking for your first YES CD may I suggest Fragile instead. Symphonic Music of Yes CD is more for true YES fans and shows the talent of Steve Howe, unfortunately it also shows how a bad producer can take a great concept and ruin it. If you are a true YES fan you should add this to your collection as Steve Howe doesn't disappoint. Most tracks contain an interesting part or fragment. Mood for a Day is probably the best one. Ironically it is listed as a Bill Bruford project and the drums are the weakest part on most tracks, with the orchestral mix a close second. Great music from a great rock band!! If you are looking for your first Yes CD I highly reccomend Fragile as the best place to start. If you have any Yes and you can also appreciate the full rich sound of an orchestra, then a five star treat awaits you!! If you enjoy multiple versions from your favorite artists (you know, a new twist to an old favorite) you may be a couple clicks away from greatness! If you want to hear it 'just like on the radio' only; please don't get this one. This CD is the real Yes acommpanied by a full orchestra; good enough to play next to your Moody Blues!!
I am an avid fan of Bill Bruford, which is why I bought this CD. I must say I was a little disappointed in it. There are a handful of tracks that are ok, but generally the orchestration of most of the pieces is lacking and amateurish sounding. The first cut sounded promising, but it pretty much goes downhill from there. The Moody Blues do a better job with the orchestra than this. There was also a glaring rip off of The Moody Blues in one of the cuts.
If you are a Yes fan like myself this is a different and beautiful way to hear this band’s music.
