Birds of Fire is one of the must have classic jazz fusion albums of all times. Very structured pieces with some of the tightest playing by these virtuoso artists. Maybe a little too heavy or dated for some, but those with an ear for jazz and for the instrumental technique will agree that this is one for the library. I finally purchased this on CD after having worn the cassette out years ago.
I first had this recording on 8-track tape over 30 years ago. This modern version is still enjoyable, offering nostalgia for me and perhaps a look at fusion jazz for others. It's interesting to trace the musical lines that came from this group, such as Jan Hammer doing the music for the Miami Vice TV show.
