Tracks 1-3 are from July 5, 1969, at the Newport Jazz Festival 1. Miles Runs the Voodoo Down 10:26 2. Sanctuary 3:58 3. "It's About That Time/The Theme 9:40 Miles Davis - trumpet Chick Corea - electric piano Dave Holland - bass Jack DeJohnette - drums The 1969 Newport set is just 24 minutes but it blew the crowd away. The band appear as a Quartet simply because Wayne Shorter got stuck in traffic. Although playing new material and a soloist down Miles turned this into a strength. On Miles Runs the Voodoo Down he plays an extra and different solo to compensate for the absence of Shorter. This is a recurring theme in Miles playing, Herbie Hancock talked of playing a gig where he played an entirely wrong note, Miles paused for a second and then played something that made it right. It is too easy to accuse Miles of being opportunistic in taking on elements of rock at this time, but he always turned the musical context he was in into something special. Tracks 4-9 are from August 29, 1970, at the Isle of Wight Festival 4. Directions 7:30 5. Bitches Brew 10:09 6. It's About That Time 6:17 7. Sanctuary 1:10 8. Spanish Key 8:15 9. When asked what tune they were going to play to open at the Isle of Wight Miles said “Call it anything” and then launched into a 40 minute set to the absolute delight of the circa 600,000 audience, who had come to see rock bands like The Who and had not heard Electric Miles before. Six months previously, as the jazz audience had continued to wane, this band had been playing to half full small jazz clubs, now they were playing to the largest audience ever (and it would remain a record for many years) and had launched on a blistering phase of creative music making that would change music forever; not just jazz and rock but a whole range of other genres too.Read full review

two great live performances from the 'lost quintet' - except wayne Shorter is missing from the first set as he got stuck in a traffic jam! says double LP but actually its only three sides the 4th side is blank ! still worth the bucks - both recordings very good quality - produced by Teo.
