Having been aware of XTC since early 80s, somehow had never heard 'Black Sea' in its entirety! I found this album compelling and fresh! Fits in its rightful place alongside 'Mummer' and 'English Settlement.' From the well known tunes: Generals & Majors, Living Through Another Cuba and Sgt. Rock... to the McCartneyesque 'Love at First Sight' XTC takes you on a musical kolidescope...don't miss the boat on 'Black Sea!'

Quick review, I put this in for my 13 year old son and he liked all but 2 songs. He's a tough sell so it stand the test of time. He loved Love At First Sight. I was quite pleased listening back to it after so many years. Many times I wonder way I liked it as much as I did, but this was good. Actually closer to 4.5 stars.
It's 1980, Progressive rock is stagnate due to the use , no rather the overuse of moog synthesizers Everything sounds the same. Enter ; New Wave. XTC is on the pop side of this wave , for the most part. Though, Travels In Nihilon ,is one bad ass song. Refreshing and upbeat.
