Kirsty MacColl died in a boating accident in 2000. I first heard her work around that time when someone played "In These Shoes?" for me. I bought the album --TROPICAL BRAINSTORM, of course -- and found it absolutely delightful. It so happens that two songs on it are what my wife and I call "our" songs: "Head" (not what you think, you dirty bird), and "Good For Me." They are the most romantic songs I've ever heard. I played the album for my wife (she wasn't my wife at that time), and we realized, as we listened, that those songs perfectly described our feelings for one another. So. A very personal album for me. It's also funny as hell in places -- I dare anyone to listen to "In These Shoes?" and not crack up. RIP Kirsty MacColl.

Great musical talent she was. Best album of hers unfortunately her last as she saves a youngster from an out of bounds watercraft , forfeiting her life but not her memory.

Tropical Brainstorm by Kirsty MacColl is the best CD I own. I listen to Kirsty every day. So multilayered, with tons of wit and love, Tropical Brainstorm hits all my emotions and pleasure points. Latin music flavors the beginning songs and the CD mellows to the end with a love song, Good For Me. My best friend loaned me his CD, and I loved it and Kirsty MacColl. I had to buy it. There's a little vid on the CD of Kirsty. It was nice to put a kind, beautiful face to the great music. From listening to her music and reading about Kirsty, I found out she was in love and happy when she made this CD. The Love, joy, and steamy romance come through in her songs. I had to get more of her music, but discovered this is Kirsty MacColl's last CD. Tragically, Ms. MacColl lost her life in Mexican Waters, from a preventable boating accident. I bought all of Kirsty MacColl’s CD’s, and hope her work will be reissued. There may be posthumous CD's, and I will buy those, too. I am so impressed with Kirsty MacColl’s humor, style, and lyrics, I fiercely recommend Tropical Brainstorm for everyone.Read full review
