This CD comprises the 5 tracks that were issued on the original vinyl version 50 years ago (near enough) plus 4 tracks that were also recorded at this concert. These 4 were originally on the "For girls who grow plump in the night" album and it's interesting to hear them played live, without any added orchestration on three of them. The standout feature is the keyboard solos, which have only a passing resemblence to the originals. The originally-on-vinyl tracks: there are three originals, one written by Simon Jeffes (of Penguin Cafe Orchestra fame), and two longish Caravan standards, For Richard and The Love In Your Eye. The orchestra just about keeps up with the band on For Richard. For me, this was an enjoyable wander down memory lane, and the album is a must-have for Caravan fans. It's not a good starting point to see what Caravan were all about though - for that try the compilation "Where but for Caravan would I" . Read full review

This expanded live recording now gets released with the addition of performances from Caravan’s recently released “For Girls Who Grow Plump In The Night” album. Claimed to now run in the order the tracks were performed on the night it is the second half of the concert which gains the most interest as it features the accompaniment of The New Symphonia Orchestra. This talented group of musicians now has its musical pieces of progressive rock fused with numerous Violins, Violas, Cellos, Wood and Brass Wind Instruments plus additional percussion which creates a magical mix of sounds and harmonies. Band leader Pye Hastings penned two new tracks especially for the occasion and these were performed alongside The Love In Your Eye from “Waterloo Lily”, A Hunting We Shall Go from the previously mentioned “Plump” album and of course no concert is ever complete without For Richard from “If I Could Do It All Over Again ….” With little more than two weeks to write new material and rehearse it is testament to this band’s musical strength and ability that this recording is actually quite a competent recording and a worthy addition to the Caravan back catalogue or indeed for fans of progressive rock this is a must buy. If you're tempted to buy but this is your first Caravan album then may I recommended the “In The Land Of Grey and Pink” album first; this though you will come back to.Read full review

This must be one of the best albums the Caravan did. It is outstanding and it was great to hear it again after all these years.
For the fans of this progressive rock band (one of the best in this field of rock, in my opinion) this is a must. The music of the band's previous four albums is fused with symphonic orchestral instruments creating a magic mix between classic rock and the feeling expressed by the mellow violins and flutes interwoven through the songs. For the fans of Canterbury sound, the previous albums of Caravan are definitely recommended along with this one.
