Tony Bennett called this concert the biggest night of his life. Originally recorded on LPs, it was an abridged version. Not until it was released on a pair of CDs were all 44 songs included. While this event capped Bennett's long climb from obscurity to major stardom, it marked another major event in his career. Music tastes were changing in 1962. Rock and Roll, Rhyhtm and Blues were taking away many of the record buyers, younger players like the Beatles were taking over the spotlight. Bennett's record sales fell, prompting Columbia Records to drop a new contract. In the years that followed Tony Bennett rebuilt his career, due in large part to his son who owned a recording studio. Also, getting a spot on Saturday Night Live and Sesasme Street triggered a revival among younger people. Frank Sinatra once hailed Bennett as the best singer in the business. Bennett's live performances at concerts, as well as new records, including an historic pairing with pianist Bill Evans.
