"A Classic Cartoon Christmas", and "A Classic Cartoon Christmas, Too" are both must-have compliations. Originally available in around 1996 and 1997, and sold separately, these once hard-to-find albums are now available from various sellers on eBay. Unfortunately, at chrimstmastime they can cost well over $50 each - but if you shop around you can find them much cheaper. It is best to buy them well before or after the christmas season. I would have preferred these compilations to have been released together as a set but Nick at Nite probably did not anticipate the positive response the first release received from listeners. I wasn't thrilled with the choice to add a couple of songs from The Muppets Family Christmas (on vol. #1) or Ren and Stimpy (vol. #2), nor was I happy to have a song from "Madeline's Favorite Songs". Although they are all certainly christmas special songs I didn't feel that these three particular choices fit in with the genre. However, this was more than made up for by the inclusion of both Heat and Freeze Miser songs (Vol #2), The Little Drummer Boy (Vol #1), and Mr. Magoo's "The Lord's Bright Blessing" (vol #2). Although several of the songs are available on other albums, this is the best of the best in one place. Charlie Brown's Vince Guaraldi songs, The Grich, and Frosty the Snowman are all certainly available elsewhere but for some reason they sound the best right next to each other - one song immediately after the other. Remember, Volume #2 is a separate album entitled "A Classic Cartoon Christmas, Too". (I think I like the second volume better than the first, but they are both must-have's for any Gen X collection). I enjoy the retro cartoon artwork on the covers of both albums - props to the art department, and I enjoyed the comments written inside. This collection of songs is fun to listen to anytime of year.Read full review
If you are a boomer then you will absolutely love this CD! These are the tunes from all of our magical childhood Christmas specials (the ones you had to wait all year for and NEVER missed!). Christmas was more special then because you had less options (you could not rent it, buy it or simply log onto youtube. You watched it once with the rest of your friends and the entire country!). Not only that, but I now realize just how clever and great these songs are, thank you Rankin-Bass and thank you Rhino! BUY IT!
If you grew up watching the perennial animated Christmas specials, chances are you'll really enjoy this CD. Lots of songs from the Rankin-Bass specials, Charlie Brown, and the Grinch; all just the way you remember them; with vocals by Jimmy Durante (who doesn't like him?), Burl Ives, Mickey Rooney, and an uncredited Thurl Ravenscroft (the voice of "Tony the Tiger") singing "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch."

Long out of print but definitely worth finding for nostalgic fans of classic Christmas specials. It has songs from several of the Rankin-Bass Christmas shows, plus some classic cartoons, and a couple of songs from Muppet Family Christmas.
