Okay, so here's the story. I hear about all these Broadway shows that I never get to go see, unless they perform a number on the Tonys or someone posts a vid on Youtube of a show they filmed with their camera phone. So anyways, I bought a Lot of dvd movies and RENT was one of them and months later I finally watch it and being on a budget while soundtrack-shopping I finally find a Highlights of... cast album from the play which pretty much features all the same actors as the movie and I love it like I did the movie! Favourite song is "Out Tonight". And yes, it's not a realistic depiction of AIDS-living artists/bohemians struggling in modern day East Village New York! But then again Oliver & Oklahoma weren't exactly an accurate depiction of London orphans & Okie cowboys either, now were they?Read full review
Having seen the motion picture, I was moved by the plot, and I was instantly hooked on the music from this. Unlike a fair amount of musicals, the music here was in-your-face awesome, yet it matched the action and pushed the story forwards. The music is catchy, especially "Seasons of Love", the main running theme of the play. This particular CD contains slightly different versions of the song, as opposed to the motion picture but they are great nonetheless and are just as awesome as the tracks from the movie. If you're a fan of "Rent", or you love the music from it, get this CD. It's one album you'll never regret!
Rent was a broadway musical and could not be found in just any department store. (At least I couldn't find it around our area).I like musicals, and this one has great singers. After receiving the DVD I had to buy the CD. Very enjoyable. There are a couple scenes that were slower, but overall a good purchase. I would recommend to someone who likes good singing, but an open mind on new thinking. It is about friends surviving in a new era dealing with one friend having aids, the other being gay and the girls are lovers. I didn't know what it was about when I bought it, but the singing is great. Overall I would recommend it.
I'm not a huge fan of musicals. I guess I've seen too many community theatre productions... THIS musical ROCKS!!! I listen to it in my car, even! Aside from the Who's "Tommy," there are no musicals that I can say that about!

One of the best musicals from Broadway to the screen. I saw the play on stage and now on film. Terrific cast and great voices!
