I will likely find it easier to write about what I like than what I dislike...because this CD is absolutely gorgeous. Leave it to Jon Anderson to take some of his older material such as "State of Independence," "The Candle Song," and "Hurry Home" and have those songs scored for an orchestra and good-sized choir. Throw in the tear-jerkingly beautiful title track "Change We Must" (a MUST-LISTEN for my fellow environmentalists/planet-lovers out there), plus other new material that could easily be transferred to canvas in way-out paintings (and in my book, that's a good thing!), and voila! Upon receiving the CD in the mail, I flipped through the lyrics in the liner notes, and I felt like I was flipping through something of a musical art gallery...between titles like "Chagall Duet" and "View from the Coppice" I couldn't help feeling like, as with his other albums, Jon was placing me on a floating cloud in the gallery of his powerful musical mind, showing me moving images of what he thinks, feels, senses...all accompanied by a voice that, like our sun itself, warms, comforts, caresses, uplifts and cheers all at once. Again, some of the pieces are as classically associated to Jon (and Vangelis!) as the Mona Lisa is to Leonardo da Vinci, and then some, like the titles I mentioned plus "Change We Must," are new masterworks that will grab you by the soul and not let go...nor would you want to if you allow yourself to be pulled into the images that Jon's lyrical paintbrush lovingly applies to the canvas of his listeners' minds... And considering that Jon Anderson does actual paintings on the side (I have seen them and they are like colored FIRE, they are so gorgeous!), it is not surprising he would present his music and lyrics the same way, no matter which CD of his you choose to listen to...whether it be "Change We Must," or way back to his 1976 masterwork "Olias of Sunhillow" (which is another one you've GOTTA check out!)... Grab a cloud to float on, lie back, relax and let this music wash over you...and then if you've the voice for it, once you've learnt all the songs (especially #12!), stand up and sing your heart out along with Jon...this album, like his others, makes me do both! :-D Happy Listening (and Singing!)Read full review
Just like with any music by Jon Anderson or Yes, his group from the past, this album adds to a collection of jewels and that I'm trying to complete. His voice and musical arrangements are just beautiful, to say the least. Long live JON ANDERSON!!!!!
