Not sure if this is the place to let it all hang out..........but.....I was there. I was Luther's house sound engineer for this show as well as the whole tour. Luther's shows were powerful, awsome, incredible, mesmerizing. He was back where he wanted to be for so many years, Chicago, the USA, he was home and this show, at the '95 Chicago Blues Festival was quite a welcome home for him. James Solberg was with the rest of the band in the dressing room, doing a final refresher rehersal, after spending the few weeks before the tour started, doing what Jimmy called "torture" practices, every day for ten hours a day, and neither Jimmy or the band had worked with Luther for at least a couple of weeks, before this show ( this was the 1st show of the tour). When Luther walked into the dressing room, (after a 14 hour flight from Europe and a hectic touring schedule over there) there were literally only minutes before taking the stage. As the band took the stage, Jimmy was the last man out, Luther asked Jim, "Burger, are these guys ready?" Jim's reply, simply "yup, see ya out there". The band always took the stage before Lu came out and opened the show with a tune called "Bloomington", titled after an Illinois town Luther lived and worked in for many years. About two minutes into the song, you can hear the unmistakable sound of that Luther Allison Blue Lucille, Gibson 335, cranking out the first few notes from behind the scenes. Wired and wireless and on the move, Luther strolls on to the stage and the crowd of around two hundred thousand Chicago blues lovers, covering nearly every square inch in front of the Petrillo band shell, roared an unbelievable welcome home, to Luther Allison. The set is powerful, the band, Ken Faultinson - bass, Mike Vlahakis - Keys, Rob Stupka - drums, the addition of the Memphis Horns, Wayne Jackson and Andrew Love on a few tunes and of course, the inimitable, James Solberg, were definately ready, for the great Luther Allison. Definately a must have CD for your collection. And don't forget that there are a couple of other great songs from Buddy Guy's Legends club as well. Perhaps I speak a bit biased in recommending this to you, because I was part of the experience, but on a scale of 1 to 10...........it's a 15. Enjoy. BobbyORead full review
