I have been a City Boy fan since I heard “5705” played on the radio in Kansas City in 1978. However, for 30 plus years I thought that they had just produced seven albums. It was incredible news to find this virtually unreleased gem - City Boy’s 1981 swan song — and even better when the eventual CD release became available in 2008. The four strongest members (of the six) remain for this release - Max Thomas on keyboards, Lol Mason on lead vocals, Mike Slamer on guitars and bass and Roy Ward on drums and also lead vocals. While not quite as consistent as the prior three releases, this album has some killer tracks that show off Slamer’s blistering guitar and the should-have-been legendary vocals of Lol Mason and Roy Ward. Max Thomas - the professor also duly brings the band into the 80s with his keyboard wizardry. Best tracks include the title track, “No Ordinary Life” and “Rat Race”. This band was really something special and I’m crushed that they never got the recognition they so richly deserved. Thinking man’s lyrical, driving, imaginative, textured rock with world class vocals in a pop package. Buy it.Read full review

Oh, what a wonderful surprise! In true City Boy form, an album made nearly 30 years ago sounds like it was made yesterday! This music is timeless! I cannot believe how fresh and vital this album is compared with the majority of stuff that is around nowadays...and I have it on good authority that there is a possibility of a NEW forthcoming eighth album. (It seems that Renaissance Records, who is the company that has just released "It's Personal," is talking to ex-members of City Boy Max Thomas and Roy Ward about a possible reformation of the band, if only to do a new album...though I personally would LOVE to see them play live again - in whatever form they would appear.) In the meantime, if you've never heard of City Boy, check this cd out. You will not be disappointed if you are into GOOD rock music, great lyrics, wonderful vocals, unique melodies...Oh! I could go on! And if you find you like this album, there are six - yes, SIX other albums that are available from Renaissance. Check them out. OK, I own up, I'm biased, I have been a fan for more than 30 years...City Boy have been the very soundtrack of my life! Don't miss out! You'll love this album.Read full review
This record is really a masterpiece, and I have been waiting for it be released on CD, and now, during year 2009 this 28 year old recording has been transfered to CD !!! Unfortunately I have not seen the City Boy live in Sweden were I live, but one of my best buddies did. If you are a Toto fan, this is something for You ! I can strongly recommend other CD:s with City Boy, such as " A dinner At The Ritz ", Heads Are Rolling ", The Day The Earth Caught Fire " among others. Melodic, high energy music from the seventies and beginning of the eighties. So, what are You waiting for ? Go and get a complete collection of City Boy CD:s ! Best regards...Kent Karlsson, Gothenburg, Sweden
