Excellent condition have been a Strawbs fan for many years. Always found it difficult to obtain any music by them before

This is a bit of nostalgia. I never bought a Strawbs album in the days of vinyl but always enjoyed listening to records friends had bought. Many of the songs have a clear message or s story behind them and I suppose we thought the Strawbs to be edgy folk rock. Listening again brings back memories but unless you, like me, enjoyed their music when it was new, you are unlikely to like it now. It is music of its time performed in a distinctive style but there are some very good songs here. It would be interesting to hear some of these songs, particularly Martin Luther King's Dream given a modern production and performed with real power. I like the Strawbs but one feels that others might make some of the compositions more effective. If you like the Strawbs then this is a good collection of their songs for your CD collection.Read full review
It's perhaps ironic that The Strawbs' best known song - the upbeat, shout-along, beloved of documentaries about the 1970s - 'Part of the Union' is atypical of most of their material. This album is filled with rather gentler, wistful material with at least one foot in a more traditional musical camp. Don't let that put you off though. This is 70s folk-rock at its peak, slip into your loon pants and tie-dye T-shirt, pop open a Party Seven and enjoy.
I bought this cd as a keen trade unionist solely for their brilliant recording of the Union Man song. However having listened to the other tunes I must say I was really pleased with the high quality and enjoyable songs that followed. An excellent all round album which deserves a place in every record collection.
