"Cornucopia" is a winner! The name is well-chosen as Lins offers a wide variety of sounds that expands his repertoire into new territory. Lins' signiture harmonic richness is still very much in evidence and the arrangements are fresh with strong nods to Africa ("Araketutu"), Miles Davis and the big band sounds. There are sophisticated rhythms, complex melody lines and new reditions of old standbys such as the lovely "Atlantida" sung with haunting delicacy by vocalist Paula Morelenbaum. Lins explores with his voice, brings new vocal texture to "Guantanamineira", and slides smoothly between 3/4 and 4/4 in "Oi Lua". And there are the Brasilian sounds, the pulsing flutes, the "Samba De Vison", and that unique unmistakable joyfulness that is for me, the hallmark of Ivan Lins extraordinary musical gift. He is still very much at the top of his game and clearly loving it. Cornucopia does cost a bit more as it has not been released in the USA (mine was shipped from Switzerland) but is worth every penny.Read full review
