Mike Oldfieldis probably best known for Tubular Bells (which rightfully so should be considered his masterpiece) but this album should rank up there as one of his best. Having the original vinyl disc, I will review off of that version. The A-side is Crises - an overture of sort where he returns to a main theme repeatedly between different songs or movements - some with mimimal lyrics but is one uninterrupted but compelling track. The B-side contains 5 unrelated songs of outstanding production and variety. The regularly played on university radio stations of the time - Moonlight Shadow - is a brillantly produced sad song of a lover dying and her last promise to her lover who won't accept their parting but has a grand feel to it as it starts out very soft and to a very loud finale - just like the souls are drifting apart and have to yell at each other to be heard near the end. Those who like compelling lyrics, rich production values, an album of varied but compatible tones and moods, an orchestra-like approach to rock music using electronics, guitars, and strings (to name a few)as the tools, with vocalists well matched to their songs as if they were another instrament. This is an album to be listened to and be savoured - appreciated by audiophiles everywhere. This isn't an album to be put on for background music - it's just too compelling to stop and listen to it. However, this disc is missing the song - Mistake Under The Weather and has rearranged the song order slightly and "side 2".Read full review
