Do be honest, I don't like rap, and I really don't like this artist when I heard his other work. He just didn't stand out to me and he just seemed to not take himself seriously. However when I heard a few tracks from this album out of chance, I was just like "wow" this rap album actually says something, besides the whole getto rap thing. I really recomend picking this one up even if you don't like rap cause once you get the CD it comes with the all the lyrics so you're able to study what he is saying. And he talks about a lot of serious stuff and not to be taken lightly. I hope this was helpful.
I have 2 of John Reuben's other albums. I saw him live back in 2002, but haven't started picking up his albums until 2006. Compared to the other albums I have (Professional Rapper and ...Hindsight), this would be my least favorite. Not because it's bad, but because it's just not my taste. While the previous albums were heavily Hip-Hop based when it came to sound, this album pushes the border a bit. Dipping in2 guitars and different drum arrangements. I appriciate the effort to try something new...but in my personal taste of music, I'm left thinking "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." However, lyrically, John is still on point. His lyrics have a very strong and positive. The comedy that he brought on previous projects has lessened on this album. Still not good, but those who love the straight Hip-Hop edge he firmly planted his feet in maybe turned off by the rock sound of this one.Read full review
I originally decided to buy this cd because I had heard track #2- Nuisance. Which I thought was a great song, but when I listened to the rest of the cd, I knew it would never leave my cd player-- it was that GOOD of a cd!! And I was surprised at the sheer variety of the music and beats of each of the songs. There are fast and funky songs to dance to, as well as slow and meaningful songs to make you ponder. All in all, definitely deserving of 5 out of 5 stars. One of John Reuben's masterpieces.
