Only had the cassette for years so happy to nab the cd now. Luscious songs with a jazzy, soyl groove.

An album of many parts. Each song is individual so the album doesn't flow as a whole but each song has great merit.

Well worth a listen. One of Sylvian’s best work. Great ambient and moody album.

David Sylvian was a long time ago the leading figure of the more famous group called Japan. There's gone a longe time since then and til 2002, and this music is quite different from what his art pop-rock group delivered in the eighties. Then, beside the brilliant and excentric pop music, there was an image of trendy cafes and stylish poses. There's nothing of that kind here (stylish poses). On the contrary. Here his music is more meditational and far from superficial and so a mature artist (by agening) has emerged. He could probably also be portrayed as more introverted and focused on contemplation and the inner self. Sylvian is still inspired by eastern music though, which is expressed on this record. Beside from that he also appear as a notorious melancholic. There are 14 tracks on this record and they all have individual identity. Still they all together represent a unity of atmosphere. I like the tracks 1)I surrender 7) Krishna Blue and 12) Wanderlust best. Sometimes you can hear that he is inspired by other artist like Tom Waits and Brian Eno, but this is not a record that would surprise you with experimental music if you have listened to this artist earlier. It's genuine Sylvian and for those who like his music you will find a creative and inventive David, but still a bit more melancholic than earlier I think. The title of the record is 'Dead bees on a cake'. Is this a metaphor for us humans destroying our own existence on this planet by overconsumption? Eastern way of thinking, to be content with your life and the health of the spirit seems to be Sylvians musical message.Read full review
