Easily King Crimson's best album ever! And it was the introduction of Adrian Belew & Tony Levin to the band. Two contributions that really changed the sound of the band. Belew's guitar playing is the perfect counterpoint to Robert Fripp's guitar playing. Levin's bass and Chapman Stick playing work well against Bill Brufords drumming. The band was on fire on this album. All the tracks are outstanding. My personal favorite is Elephant Talk. That song starts out with Levin on the Chapman Stick, doing both a bass line and some higher register finger tapping parts, then the rest of the band come crashing in, and never let up until the very last note. The rest of the album is full of all kinds of counter-rhythms, odd time signatures, and other general progressiveness. This is a musician's album! Or at the very least a serious music fan's album. These guys all are very experienced players, and they showcase it on every song. This was part of a 3 album "trilogy" that was a total departure from the sound of previous King Crimson albums...and it was a change for the better.Read full review

I have followed King Crimson since their beginning. Every new version has different types of musicians therefore different music. This 4 piece is great.

I'm replacing a lost copy. This is the best King Crimson album, in my opinion, and I have them all. Every song is a masterpiece. Three of a Perfect Pair, is good, too, followed by "beat". The newer "the power to believe" is great, but has some filler songs.
