Long time Kansas fan here, this CD originally came out (in LP & cassette form) in 1983. Until "Somewhere To Elsewhere" it was the last album with Kerry Livgren writing and performing. Steve Walsh was gone two albums ago and was replaced by John Elephante, a very talented singer/songwriter/keyboardist. While it's a pretty song, "Andi" (by Elephante) just leaves me scratching my head. "Fight Fire With Fire" was their big radio hit from this album and also the first (and I believe only) song that they did a music video for. The song "Mainstream" (by Livgren) is one of my all time favorite Kansas songs, Phil Ehart cranks out an awesome drum solo and the guitar work absolutely crunches! Most of the songs were written by Elephante, although not much of his Christianity comes through in his lyrics. Livgren's songs do show his faith in "Incident On A Bridge" and "End Of The Age". Overall it's a terrific album, not quite as perfect as "Vinyl Confessions", but still a great listen. Both my ears give it two thumbs up!Read full review
I got this album on CD cause I only previously had it on cassette. This album isn't Kansas best, but it has some necessary tunes. One song "Andi", which is a very catchy, good song isn't on the Greatest Hits album, yet you wish it was. It has a few other songs that are fairly nice as well and thus you have to get it despite the fact that some of these tunes are on the Greatest hits album, thus making this album necessary for only several tunes (2 to 3). But hey, good music is worth having if it makes you feel better (feeling better is priceless, so if you have the extra $10, pick it up)
