Early Roxy Music and a fine compilation at that. Typical Eno on a lot of the tracks which showcased what he was to do later. This shows a side of Ferry which those who came to like Roxy Music in the late 70s may find ever so slightly strange. Mostly composed and performed before his lounge lizard persona. The voice is unmistakable and the compositions and production are as outlandish as you can get but they are superbly crafted. It's a less than poppy sound and challenging to listen to. That makes it all the more worthwhile. Iconic, commercial yet not commercial. Brilliant.

For me, the early years were the best for Roxy Music. The singles were great but their early album material was even better. Original and innovative their huge variety of styles are heard to sum up in a few words. Without doubt, a band who were well ahead of their time.

For a fan, or even a beginner of Roxy Music's music, this is a great compilation of a band that will sound a lot different later. Really good songs. Avant and cool.
