I was one of the few people I knew that bought this album when it came out .. Most Muddy purists hated it, but being a musician, I appreciated the change of pace it must have been for Mr. Waters. And his smooth stylings so fit the psychedelic treatments the albums artists presented him, that I could only say to myself, "If you've got it, you can do anything with it"... At times it's a bit over-produced, but these tunes will haunt you for years to come; they have with me! And the photo of Muddy in the white robe w/ his axe is priceless! Great, must-have recording!
Lately I`ve been revisiting the music I listened to in the past. Call it nostalga or things to spark forgotten memories. When Muddy Waters released this album in the late sixities, myself and many friends were experiencing chaotic times. Our generation was in the forefront of a social and political revolution. "Times they are changing" America had lost its "innocense" So much of our feelings were echoed in the music and lyrics of that time. "ELECTRIC MUD" had that amplified - in your face- guitar sound that blended so well with Muddy`s blues vocals. Too bad there were only 8 tracks. However the 8 were absolutely great. I especially liked Muddy`s version of "Lets spend the night together" Not that it was better or anything ...just as great only a different interpretation. So I recomend this CD especially as a vehicle to take you back to times long gone.Read full review
It is after seeing a movie that I learned about the existence of this record. One of the best the famous Chess records label ever produced. The style is surprising. Everything but classical knowing that Me muddy Waters was everything but not classical. You can feel the influence of the psychedelic times that were dominant when the record was made in 1968. Some of sounds are just like if they were imported from a Hendrix record. It is Chess records who had this idea to mix styles. The record was a commercial failure. It is know considered as one of the best blues records ever. I think it is a pure jewel. Jean-Marc - France
I enjoy blues music from time to time and especially the greats like Muddy Waters. The album is typical Muddy Waters early electric blues that you can relate to many artists of the 60's and 70's. Also, being from Chicago, Chess Records is part of the city's memorable past.
This is a very good blues cd. I have enjoyed it very much.
