The latest release by Mr. BUCKHEAD is a welcome addition to my collection. There probably is no definitive Buckethead record. each CD is different than the others. While he may have a reputation of being a metal guitar shredder, that is only the tip of the iceberg of his talent. This is a release of soulful guitar playing, primarily acoustic guitar instrumental music. He emphasizes tonality on this release. there are no drums, and occasional use of vibrato on the electric guitar parts. The mood he sets is quiet and melancoly. Some of the pieces sound classical in nature. This record will end the dispute that all Bucket can do is Shred metal licks. If your open to music beyond the mile-a-minute speed playing he has offered in the past, then you will find solice in this soulful collection of melodic guitar works.Read full review
I've been a fan of Buckethead since around 1992 and have been buying as many of his releases as I could get my hands on. Mostly known for wearing a white mask and a KFC bucket on his head, he started to gain attention for his "shredding": lightning fast virtuostic playing. However, with more recent releases, such as Electric Tears, Shadows Between The Sky, and A Real Diamond In The Rough, he has showcased his ability to play beautifully delicate and sophisticated acoustic/electric music. This album is supposedly a follow-up to 2007's Electric Tears. While it does continue in a similar style, this album is not nearly as "ambient", relying less on atmospherics and more on straight ahead playing. The tracks on here vary; a few are acoustic/electric performances while most are strictly acoustic. All the tracks are excellent and A number are outstanding. One of Buckethead's greatest strengths is his ability to infuse his songs with an overwhelming amount of emotion. People often cite that they find themselves taken a mental journey while listening to this and the albums previously mentioned. Very few guitarists that I have heard (and it is a lot) can do this. If you are a Buckethead fan this is a no-brainer. If you are someone who enjoys beautifully played guitar instrumental music then you really owe it to yourself to buy this.Read full review
