What can I possibly say about Brain Salad Surgery that wasn't said forty years ago. The album is stellar, from stem to stern. For many of us this was our introduction to ELP, and what a glorious meeting it was. From the opening notes of "Jerusalem" ( for which the group took a lot of heat back home) to "Toccatta," to the eternal "Karn Evil 9," and even in the oddball "Benny the Bouncer" (admittedly, one of my favorites, and a track for which the band took much critical flak,) this album stands as one of the most iconic in rock history, forever engraving the letters ELP on the consciousnesses of many of us who came of age during the seventies. On a side note, the unforgettable cover was much of the world's first introduction to the art of H.R. Giger, who would later become so familiar through his exposure in Playboy magazine, and still later through his work on the movies "Alien" and "Species."Read full review

This record is a classic, of course. What makes this reissue so good is the additional of the b-sides and the flexi-disc "medley" of the entire record. Very cool. Plus, they released it in a normal jewel box, which is always appreciated!
