Every Good Boy Deserves Favor has always been an outstanding sample of the Moody Blues work. The only problem has been the records at the time of it's original release had an extreme amount of surface noise. The early CDs were very compressed and higher end stereos could pick up on some aggravating distortion on several key cuts. This Hybrid SACD remastered from the old Quadraphonic recordings solves much of the old problems. It has much improved overall sound over the earlier releases.(Quadraphonic sound was a four channel rather than two channel sound that never became popular in the 1970's. The only ''Quad" recordings made were of albums that were thought to really benefit from the expanded soundstage) EGBDF as an musical effort is excellent. It has always been a staple of music from the early 1970's and always been considered on of the Moody Blues very best efforts. The Moody's are still performing today fifty years later and still perform tracks from this album/CD. I recommend this version to any Moody Blues fan or any high end audio enthusiast. It;s not perfect, but it is so much better than anything that has come before it.Read full review

These Moody Blues SACD's were transferred from the Quad mixes done in the 70's. They are NOT 5.1 - The center channel speaker has no signal, even though they call it 5.1 and the center channel speaker light comes on, the center speaker is silent. However, the original quad mixes by Derek Varnals were excellent with great use of the surrounds as a source of backup vocals, acoustic guitar, split double lead guitars, mellotron and even lead vocal on occasion. It is unfortunate that Lodge's bass was recorded so badly and these mixes cannot correct that, but with a bit of tweaking, you can make the bass legible. You really need to get these if you're a Moodies fan.
I'm a Moody Blues fan from the beginning so I am very biased. In the beginning I listed to this album on 8 track tape in my car, the recording was limited to the format but my ears were in very good condition. Now my ears are not so good anymore so I get the best gear I can and the best recordings available so the SACD version is what I have now and to my tired ears it still sounds wonderful in the extreme! This album does not disappoint on any level.
Very good SACD sound quality, although I have only played the 2 channel layer, not the surround sound yet.
